Verse 1
Grey on the pavementGrey in the skyGrey in the windowWhere you said goodbyeCoffee goes colderMorning turns whiteI'm trying to rememberWhat colour felt likeYou took the red with youYou took the blueEvery shade I knewSomehow belonged to youNow I move through the cityWith your ghost in my headFollowing little loose coloursLike the ends of a thread
Pre-Chorus
One by oneThey come undoneOne by oneI watch them run
Chorus
Coloured threads, coloured threadsStill hanging from my heartRed where you loved meBlue where we fell apartColoured threads, coloured threadsGold caught in my handsYou took the rainbow with youLeft me holding strandsColoured threads, coloured threadsI thought you took them allBut somewhere underneath the greyThere's colour in me still
Verse 2
Green from the dashboardCaught in your eyesRed from the trafficGold in the evening lightDeep-blue midnightViolet dawnFunny how the colours stayWhen somebody is goneI pull at a memoryAnother comes free—Yellow in your laughterPurple on the street
Pre-Chorus
One by oneThey come undoneOne by oneBut they're not gone
Chorus
Coloured threadsStill hanging from my heartRed where you loved meBlue where we fell apartColoured threads, coloured threadsGold caught in my handsYou took the rainbow with youLeft me holding strandsColoured threads, coloured threadsI thought you took them allSomewhere I'm through…
Bridge
But I still dream of rainNot grey rainColourViolet fallingCrimson running wildBlue across my shouldersGold behind my eyesLet it soak right through meLet it stain my skinIf you took the colours outI'll put them back againLet the green flood the pavementlet the red run throughLet every colour remind meNone of them belonged to you
Final Chorus
Coloured threads, coloured threadsI'm gathering them nowRed in the morningBlue across the cloudsColoured threads, coloured threadsGold breaking throughAll the colours I once thoughtOnly came from youYou took your rainbow with youBut you didn't take mine too
Outro
The grey is still hereBut so is my heart
